Ichizenya
A moment to unwind in the city.
Ichizenya serves seasonal fruit pastries and baked treats, including a mille-feuille layered with dried persimmon, walnuts, figs and chocolate. A thoughtful gift, or something to enjoy with a cup of tea.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
The sticky sweetness of dried persimmon, the crunch of walnuts and the seeds of fig meet the richness of chocolate. Ichizenya’s signature dried persimmon, walnut and fig mille-feuille brings these contrasting textures together in each bite. One customer enjoyed the layers of fruit and walnuts with restrained-sweetness chocolate, and thought it would pair well with a robust tea. It also makes a tempting choice to savour slowly with coffee or tea, or to give as a small treat.
Fruit mille-feuille brings a seasonal dimension, too. Another customer tried the yuzu mille-feuille and was struck by its balance: the chocolate did not dominate, leaving the fruit’s sweetness to come through. Cakes and baked goods are also available; customers have mentioned taking home financiers and giving assorted selections as gifts. With pastries that make the most of dried persimmon and fig, there are options to suit the recipient and the occasion.
Ichizenya is a Western-style pastry shop in Tanaka Higashitakahara-cho, Sakyo Ward. Whether you are choosing a single cake or taking home baked treats, the signature mille-feuille—with its layers of fruit and chocolate—is a good place to start.
